ItвЂ™s a move that both brings Rodriguez to a position back within his home state, and adds an individual to the JayhawksвЂ™ staff whose life experience in and of itself has the potential to provide such value to a team thatвЂ™s approaching its second season with Leipold at the helm. And IвЂ™m learning a lot, too, at the same time.вЂќ IвЂ™m all about etiquette, speak when spoken to, because at the end of the day these guys have done a really good job to get where theyвЂ™re at and they're all really, really, really talented. вЂњIf IвЂ™m in meetings, I keep my mouth shut. вЂњAny way I can be an asset, or add value, to this organization is just really what IвЂ™m trying to do,вЂќ said Rodriguez, whoвЂ™s 40 years old. HeвЂ™s looking to add value any way he can, whether thatвЂ™s from his experience at the junior college level or just the fact he has ties as someone from the state.

He compared his position to that of a consultant, and highlighted his perspective that there arenвЂ™t any egos on the staff. Rodriguez said he spent time with different positions on the defensive side of the ball throughout spring ball, learning the system and building relationships with fellow coaches.
